<h3>Brian Hartgen has been an Access Technology Consultant for the past 12 years. He has been the sole programmer on the <a href="http://www.hartgen.org/">J-Ware line of products</a>, (J-Say, J-Tools and J-Tunes), centred around the JAWS for Windows screen-reader. He has provided training to individuals and groups on many screen-readers including JAWS and System Access. He co-owns the internet radio station, <a href="http://www.team-fm.com/">Team-FM</a>.</h3>

<p>Stuart Lawler is manager of the Rehabilitation Training Centre, at the National Council for the Blind of Ireland (NCBI). The centre is based at NCBI’s Head Office, in Dublin, and Stuart coordinates and manages a diverse rehabilitative programme, which caters to people with sight loss aged 18 to 65.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>As well as managing the centre and its training programmes, Stuart is responsible for research into and support of accessible mobile solutions for NCBI. He has worked extensively with mobile carriers in Ireland, to bring accessible technology to mobile handsets at an affordable cost.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>He has over 13 years experience in the Assistive Technology industry, and has participated in a number of European Union funded projects with NCBI. He describes himself as a tech addict!</p>
<p> </p>
<p>In his free time he enjoys reading, walking, catching up with friends, playing music, and internet radio and audio production.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Stuart lives in Dublin, with his fiancé Nadine, who will later this year represent Ireland in the Paralympic games, in London.</p>

She has worked in assistive technology since 1984 providing assessment and training to consumers, consultation to government and industry, and consultation to software and hardware developers. She and her husband operate <a href="http://therideradio.net/">The Ride Radio</a>. They have a dog and a cat. The cat likes to send tweets and is also suspected of having an email account. <p><a href="mailto:jloya29@gmail.com">Joshua Loya</a> is an assistant instructor at the <a href="http://www.guardianacademy.com/">Guardian Academy of Martial Arts in Spring Valley, California.</a> Despite being completely blind since 1996, he has earned 2<sup>nd</sup>  degree black belts in Guardian Jujutsu, Guardian Karate, and Guardian Kobujutsu. He also holds a green belt in Guardian Kempo, the advanced program offered by the Guardian Academy, and is one of only three students to be given Guardian Kempo rank under the new system rules. Joshua has also worked as an assistive technology trainer and consultant for blindness specific and mainstream organizations.</p>

Joshua Loya is an assistant instructor at the Guardian Academy of Martial Arts in Spring Valley, California. Despite being completely blind since 1996, he has earned 2nd  degree black belts in Guardian Jujutsu, Guardian Karate, and Guardian Kobujutsu. He also holds a green belt in Guardian Kempo, the advanced program offered by the Guardian Academy, and is one of only three students to be given Guardian Kempo rank under the new system rules. Joshua has also worked as an assistive technology trainer and consultant for blindness specific and mainstream organizations.

 ABOUT OUR PRESENTERS:

 

Dr. Robert Carter is a 56-year-old psychologist at Texas A&amp;M University. Before coming to Texas in 1989, he completed his Ph.D. at the University of Florida.

As a graduate assistant, Dr. Carter ran an accessible computer lab where he taught blind people to use the Apple II. In his doctoral dissertation, he studied the decision making process that rehabilitation counselors go through when they select access technology for their clients.

Since 1975, Dr. Carter has been involved in the testing and development of dozens of access technology products. He frequently speaks publicly about access technology.

At present, Dr. Carter is the host of &quot;The Tech Doctor&quot; podcast where he helps his listeners make sense of the ever-changing and complex landscape of accessible technology. You can keep up with him by following him on Twitter.

 

Erin Edgar is a lawyer working for a non-profit legal aid organization in North Carolina. She and her husband co-host a podcast called Tech Access Weekly, in which they discuss the latest developments in mainstream and assistive technology. Additionally, she also co-hosts a podcast called Book Hoarders Annonymous, which is dedicated to book-related discussion of all kinds. She can also be reached on Twitter.

 

Darrell Shandrow is a blind accessibility evangelist, Internet radio

broadcaster, assistive technology instructor, and technical writer living

in Tempe, Arizona. As the publisher of the Blind Access Journal blog and 

podcast, he is part of a team of advocates, assistive technology

instructors, and reporters including Karen Shandrow, Allison Hilliker,

Jeff Bishop, and special guest contributors exploring accessibility and demonstrating revolutionary new technologies for the blind.

professional and academic publications on blindness, vision loss, and aging.</p>
<p>In addition to her work at VisionAware, Maureen is an Associate<br />
Editor of <em><a href="http://www.jvib.org/">The<br />
Journal of Visual Impairment & Blindness</a></em> and an Adjunct Instructor<br />
and past Director of the Graduate Programs in <a href="http://www.salus.edu/cer/index.html">Vision Rehabilitation<br />
Therapy/Rehabilitation Teaching at Salus University College of Education and<br />
Rehabilitation</a>, where she received three <em>Educator of the Year</em> awards.</p>
<p>She is a recipient of the <em>Bruce<br />
McKenzie Award</em> for lifetime achievement and outstanding contributions to<br />
Vision Rehabilitation Therapy/Rehabilitation Teaching from the <a href="http://www.aerbvi.org/">Association for the Education and Rehabilitation<br />
of the Blind and Visually Impaired</a>.</p>

<p><a href="http://www.twitter.com/servantwarrior">Joshua Loya</a><br />
is an assistant instructor at the <a href="http://www.sweetwaterspringsmartialarts.com/">Guardian Academy of Martial<br />
Arts in Spring Valley, California.</a> Despite being completely blind since<br />
1996, he has earned 1<sup>st</sup> degree black belts in Guardian Jujutsu,<br />
Guardian Karate, and Guardian Kobujutsu. He is scheduled to test for his 2<sup>nd</sup><br />
degree black belts later this year. He also holds a senior blue belt in<br />
Guardian Kempo, the advanced program offered by the Guardian Academy, and is<br />
one of only three students to be given Guardian Kempo rank under the new system<br />

<p><a href="mailto:jacobson@hadley.edu">Patti Jacobson</a> has been an instructor<br />
with the <a href="http://www.hadley.edu/">Hadley School for the Blind</a> for<br />
16 years. She has been totally blind due to Retinopathy of Prematurity. She had<br />
partial sight until age ten, then developed glaucoma and lost her remaining<br />
vision.</p>
<p>She<br />
received her Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education and her Master’s in<br />
Rehabilitation Counseling from the <a href="http://www.unco.edu/">University of<br />
Northern Colorado, Greeley.</a></p>
<p>She<br />
lives independently in her own home, and participates in church<br />
activities.  At Hadley, she teaches the Food Series, Independent Living,<br />
Using Raised Markers, Braille Reading, and Guide Dogs courses.</p>
